- Details -
Hello, we are the BK21 Educational Research Team from the Department of Sociology at Yonsei University.
We are pleased to invite a renowned scholar in the field of social class and inequality, Professor David Grusky from Stanford University, to lead a colloquium.
Details of the colloquium are as follows:
○ Topic : Why Is There So Much Segregation?
○ Speaker : David Grusky / Professor of Sociology at Stanford University; Director of the Center on Poverty and Inequality
○ Date : 2024. 10. 8(Tue) 4 p.m. (GMT +9)
○ Venue : Yonsei University, Yeonhi hall Room 401
○ Abstract :
In contemporary societies, rising inequality is expressed via (a) the “stretching out” of the income distribution (i.e., growing income inequality), and (b) the declining probability of contact between rich and poor people (i.e., growing segregation). Why is the latter form of inequality – the segregation of rich and poor people – on the rise? The purpose of this talk is to show that urbanization and marketization are quietly at work creating a highly segregated society.
We look forward to your interest and participation.
