The effect of household head’s employment status on subjective well-being of female spouses

Kim, Myeonghui (Professor, Preventive Medicine, College of Medicine, Eulji Univ., South Korea)

This research shows how the male household head’s unemployment status can not only harm the individual unemployed person’s health, but also negatively influence his spouse’s health at the significant level. It also points out that compared to the discussion of economic costs of unemployment, the discussion of its social costs is lacking. By empirically proving the effects of unemployment on the family members’ health, this study is expected to contribute to a better understanding of the social impacts of unemployment.
