Globally, it has been observed that grandparents often step in to address childcare needs arising from the prevalence of double-income families among younger adults. This form of parental assistance significantly affects the life events of their adult children. While the significance and limitations of this transfer of parental time resources inevitably lead to competition among family members for their distribution, existing literature predominantly examines the impact of grandparents’ childcare support.

This study, utilizing data from Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA), investigates differences in parental childcare help among siblings within families and explores how these variances, if present, correlate with parents’ educational attainment. Through this examination, the study aims to uncover inequalities in the transfer of parental time resources to adult children, both within and between families.

The findings indicate that gender, education level of adult children, and their parents’ educational attainment all play a role in this transfer of time resources, with interaction effects observed.
