This study aims to examine how family dissolution rates have changed by class and family norms in Korea in recent ten years. Using the data from Social Survey conducted by Statistics Korea, the study finds that family dissolution rates have recently increased in Korea, especially in groups of lower socioeconomic status. In these groups, even those of traditional family norms are more likely to experience divorce or separation than in the past. However, for those of higher socioeconomic status, the probability of experiencing family dissolution has decreased. These findings suggest that inequalities in resources to sustain family life may play a more important role in increasing family dissolution rates than changes in family norms in Korea.
